TDA Restores Sefao Primary School, Benefiting Over 850 Students

Ahferom, Central Tigray — Tigrai Development Association (TDA), in partnership with the Vereniging Tigrai Development Association in the Netherlands (TDANL), has successfully completed the rehabilitation of Sefao Primary School, a facility severely damaged during the 2021–2022 conflict. The project ran from August to November 2024 and aimed to restore essential learning conditions for students and teachers.

The intervention included the renovation of doors and windows, installation of 150 combined student desks, blackboards, library and pedagogy center furniture, administrative office equipment, a desktop computer with printer, and recreational materials. The project also provided furniture for O‑Class learners and improved the school’s mini‑media setup.

In total, the project now benefits 853 students (410 girls), 25 teachers, and administrative staff, with early signs of improved classroom conditions, reduced absenteeism, and enhanced student performance. School leaders and community members expressed strong appreciation for the intervention, highlighting its immediate impact on resuming normal teaching and learning activities.

The project was delivered with a total budget of 2.8 million ETB, of which 2.45 million ETB was utilized. TDA and TDANL officials noted that while this phase has significantly restored functionality, additional support—such as reference books, pedagogical materials, and reconstruction of fully damaged blocks—remains necessary to bring the school to full pre‑war standards.
